GROW Coaching Model

The GROW model is the most widespread coaching framework in the world. Four stages — Goal, Reality, Options, Will — lead from goal setting to concrete action.

What is the GROW model?

GROW stands for Goal, Reality (the current situation), Options and Will (willingness and next steps). It was developed by Sir John Whitmore as a structured coaching conversation.

The model works because it guides the coachee through a natural thinking process: first clarify the goal, then understand reality, then explore options, and finally commit to concrete steps.
